A WORD FROM OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL
Bogaerts International School is a K-12 school situated in Le Domaine de Freins (Uccle) in the middle of a semi-urban natural green zone at the gates of Brussels. Stemming from Bogaerts Education, founded in 1970, B.I.S. is the only full IB world school in Brussels, offering a continuum of three programmes of education: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP).
The IB programme serves as a means and not an end. Preparing them for the prestigious IB Diploma, B.I.S. aspires to help its students acquire the necessary skills and capabilities to shape the world’s future, which starts today, thus inspiring them how to become internationally minded, global citizens while not losing sight of their local origins.
Central to our educational philosophy is a ‘whole child’ approach, guided by the core principles of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, Family and Innovation. B.I.S. provides an outstanding learning environment where students not only focus on academic excellence but, even more importantly, discover and develop their multiple skills and talents through extra-curricular activities, competitions, cultural exchanges, field-based and hands-on experiences. As passionate life-long learners, B.I.S. students learn how to learn, thus preparing them for continuous academic and personal growth.
Our school is project-oriented, thus stimulating students to be curious, creative and responsible learners able to combine their own strengths and talents with those of a wide variety of other persons through constructive teamwork. We strongly believe in the strength of each unique individual student and in the collective strength they will bring to their generation. Students are encouraged to develop their own learning preferences, to develop their talents and interests, to take appropriate risks and responsibility for the consequences of their choices, to develop a personal identity, express their ideas and feelings in adequate ways, and to act from strength. We see it as our mission not only to prepare them for a challenging and complex future, but to participate actively in construing it.
Above all, we strive to create a vibrant community where students, parents and staff members are active participants in enriching the learning environment and enhancing both their own well-being while contributing to their social and natural environments. Through personal and small group activities in small classroom settings, we advance both the social and emotional and the naturalistic intelligence of our students enabling them to build self-confidence through autonomous and interdependent relationships.
We aim to create a school community where everyone respects each other’s differences and cares about their shared personal, natural and cultural environments.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to our school and become a member of our learning community!
